Its amazing the paranoia that nowadays exists about sex and teens or even more children, in this aspect we are living in an involution we were mora advanced 30 years ago than now in sexual education, now fear is the dominant word for interaction between young people and sex and now elders! this is amazing, we must fight to recover a sexually positive society and get rid of this ridiculous paranoia, we are affecting our kids and we are again making sexually unhealthy persons.

Excellent article. You are absolutely correct that U.S. sex law is like a black hole: Once reason falls in, it can never re-emerge. To fully understand this we must remember the words of Thomas Paine (1737 - 1809) "He that would make his own liberty secure must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself." These well intentioned laws are a very slippery slope that have eroded all of our privacy. Our government has essentially connected all sorts of private info with a persons criminal record, which can be published on the Internet for the whole world to see. Your address, online map, driver license number, social security number, vehicle/boat description with license numbers, online ID's, and email addresses are all things that our government has tied in with a criminal record as public information. Tennessee includes the driver license numbers of registered sex offenders on their sex offender registry. Indiana used to include social security numbers of registered sex offenders. However, they opened the door to a person's social security number being considered public information.

What does all of this mean to you or me? The registries are expanding to include other crime types. Furthermore, anyone can create of list of whatever crime type they want, and publish all of this information on the Internet as public information since the government considers it public information. Imagine if MADD were to publish a registry of DUI offenders, or the KKK publishes a registry of colored offenders. I am just using these groups to illustrate my point. Moreover, technology is advancing to the point where you can access satellite photos of addresses and even pictures of the homes at these addresses. Various states are also publishing court case information on the Internet too. All of this information can be collated into a single place by any group. It has allowed websites such as Copwatch.net to exist, which has become a list of over 15,000 deviant criminal cops. More than 2,600 of these listed cops are sexually deviant, and most of them are pedophiles.

I could easily go to this more in depth for the possibilities are endless, but I don't want to hijack your column. Suffice it to say that you make many excellent points in your article about protectionism, which can become a slippery slope. Especially when we rationalize it for a crime type despised by most people.

Most protectionism laws, while while intentioned, tend to have unintended consequences by taking a simplistic approach to a complex problem. What invariably happens is that too wide a net is cast to protect a "vulnerable" group or a group that is perceived to be vulnerable. Most protectionism laws are driven a a politicians desire to become a career politician, and what better way to do that than by writing feel good protectionism laws based in anger rather than facts.

Sorry about the length, but I tend to get wordy. Had a good English 101 teacher. lol

Yes, legislature (moral police) are insane, and continue to pass insane, draconian, unconstitutional laws to "protect" society from themselves.

See the following of children being caught in the large nets of the sex offender laws:

http://sexoffenderissues.blogspot.com/2007/12/child-sex-offenders.html

And here for corrupt senators, mayors, governors, police, etc:

I used to correspond with death row prisoners. A couple men turned out to be interesting and repentant, but others, phew! One guy actually wanted me to find vagina pictures of elderly women. Go figure. Dropped that correspondence in the trash...
